Who should attend Chess Club and why?
Beginners through advanced players are welcome at Chess Club!
Make new friends while learning chess skills and practicing together each week. Chess has been proven to improve focus and critical thinking! In our classroom, chess is also a fun game where we build confidence, socialize, and practice sportsmanship.
What will students learn in Chess Club?
We will adjust each Chess Club to the students who attend to make sure all players learn! Beginners will learn chess fundamentals from castling to checkmate. We will learn tactics and checkmate patterns to build confidence finishing a game. We may even learn advanced tournament skills while learning from famous chess games!
Curiosity Club - S.T.E.A.M Fun Lab (PM)

Join us in weekly exploration of the curious worlds of science, technology, engineering, art and math with fun (and sometimes messy!) projects aligned with grade level academics and common core standards. You will conduct experiments, build, take apart, create and see how art, science and technology are connected. Having fun with S.T.E.A.M. subjects fosters lifelong appreciation and curiosity for learning.
Spanish Immersion Classes- Paris Academy Northwest (AM)

Our program offers an engaging, immersive experience designed for both new and returning students. Each session introduces brand-new concepts and weekly themes, ensuring the curriculum is never repetitive. A brief review is included to support returning learners while helping new students feel confident and included.

Young learners explore spatial reasoning and storytelling by building imaginative worlds in Minecraft, fostering creativity and early problem solving skills. You might not understand what they are talking about, but their creations will be stuff of Minecraft legends.

Petals Art Club (PM)
Thursdays after school at West Mercer Elementary School from 3:50pm to 4:50pm

Petals Art Club offers hands-on arts and crafts projects that encourage creativity, confidence, and imagination after school. Each session blends open-ended exploration with guided instruction, helping kids discover the joy of making something uniquely their own.

New Bach Music School, a premier provider of classical music education, is excited to offer a Piano Class designed specifically for K-5th graders. Our school partners with local schools to deliver high-quality after-school enrichment programs, led by extraordinary musicians and experienced educators who hold advanced degrees and Ph.D.s.
Through our Piano Class, students will learn essential skills, including hand position, note reading, chord vocabulary, rhythm, and music theory. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to learn and play a variety of fun songs, enhancing their engaging learning experience! Keyboards and headphones are provided, and each student will receive a lesson book. Upon completing the class, students will be awarded a New Bach Music School Certificate to celebrate their musical achievements.
The class is open to all K-5 graders, new and returning students! Returning students will start from where they left off in the previous session. We look forward to making music together!
