Did you know that the first PTAs were formed as grassroots advocacy organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of every child in education, health and safety? Your West Mercer PTSA continues that tradition through our work in the school and through our advocacy in the community.

The West Mercer PTSA Advocacy Committee advocates for the students of West Mercer and for the greater community. We work to find solutions on issues impacting our schools and children. We facilitate communication within and from the PTSA to the broader community. We take action for the development of the highest-quality learning environment. We support and speak on behalf of children and families to our school administration, government, and other organizations that make decisions impacting our schools.  If you would like to be a part of this work, please contact advocacy@westmercerpta.org.

Advocacy is the heart of PTA. We stand together for every child. Your National PTA and Washington State PTA work tirelessly to advocate on behalf of all children. The Washington State PTA legislative priorities for the last biennium included:

  • Social and emotional learning
  • School construction and simple majority for bonds
  • Prevent gun violence
  • Strategies to address the teacher shortage
  • Strategic K-12 investments to close gaps.

Locally, the West Mercer PTSA has adopted resolutions and stands with the National PTA to address systemic and institutional racism.

We also work on:

As well as school funding, equity in education, safe routes to school, and many other issues that impact our children and those in our community.
