April is Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month and April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day.  On April 2, Autism Speaks celebrates people with autism and those who support them with the Light it Up Blue campaign, where landmarks, buildings and homes will be lit in blue to shine a light on the autism community.

Autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today and autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, according to Autism Speaks.
